NEWTON, UTAH 2023 NOTICE OF ELECTION
The Town of Newton, Utah will hold a municipal general election to elect two (2) council members for a four-year term each seat.
GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION DAY: NOVEMBER 21, 2023
The State of Utah has changed the date of this year’s election by two weeks. The election will now be held November 21, 2023. Newton has two seats open for Newton town council for 4-year terms. There is still time to do a write-in declaration of candidacy. To become a valid write-in candidate for the election, a person must file a “Write-in Declaration of Candidacy” form with the Town Clerk in person no later than 65 days before the November election. The candidate must also qualify for all the requirements of the office.

DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY:
- Those interested in running for office must sign and file a Write-In Declaration of Candidacy form in person with the Newton Town Clerk by September 15, 2023.
- Please contact Karla Ferguson, Newton Town Clerk, at 801-597-5289 for an appointment if it is not during her part-time office hours.
- There is no filing fee.
- The required filing form is available at the Newton Town Hall, 51 South Center, Newton.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED OF CANDIDATES:
- Be a United States citizen at the time of filing.
- Be a registered voter of Newton Town.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a resident of Newton Town for 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the general election; November 7, 2023.
- Not be a convicted felon.
Utah law requires that this election be conducted by mail. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters. An official Cache County ballot drop box is located on the north side of Newton Town Hall, 51 South Center, Newton.
